 Dear Parents/Carers

For those of you who have a child in Year 6, please keep an eye on the blog, newsletter and Year 5/6 class page on our website.  All Secondary transition information will be shared with you as we get it.  

Also, Miss Sharman has been busy organising the hoodie order for this year.  Year 6 usually have them for the Isle of Wight, but even though the trip is not going ahead, you will still be able to order your child a school hoodie to keep as a memento of their time at Down Hall. An online shop will be opened for you to place your orders soon.  Details to follow.

All other leavers news will be shared with you as we have it.

Please remember that it is individual school photographs this Thursday (29th) information on this was share in this week's newsletter.  As usual, sibling photographs will also be taken.  COVID guidelines will be followed at all times as these take place.

 Dear Parents/Carers

This week, in Year 5 and 6, we have been writing stories.  We planned one as a class and wrote it together.  The children thoroughly enjoyed it.

In maths, we have been tackling worded problems and questions which require an explanation.

This is a very tricky part of the maths curriculum, but the children have risen to the challenge well.

We have been lucky with the weather today and have been able to spend some time outside this afternoon.  Unlike yesterday when Sapphire Class got caught in a hail storm and got rather wet.

Next week, we are looking forward to continuing with our story writing and will be working on our new science/DT project which we are sure your children will tell you all about.

 Dear Parents/Carers

We are really pleased with the way your children have settled back into school life over the past three weeks and hope they enjoy their well earned rest.

Today, we issued children with their maths and GPS homework books.  These are to remain at home and not be brought back into school.

Pages to complete will be posted on your child's Google Classroom page each Friday and homework will be expected to be completed by the following Wednesday as usual.

Instead of returning books to school, children will mark their own homework from answers which will be posted every Wednesday.  They will need to fill in a feedback sheet with their scores and any comments they have on what they have been set.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a lovely Easter and a restful couple of weeks with your children.

 Dear Parents/Carers

Today has been so much fun!  It was great to see so many children wearing red.  As part of Red Nose Day, the children in Year 5 and 6 took part in an online dance session.  Teachers joined in too!  

Homework has been set via google classroom this week.  We will be sending homework books home next Friday.

This week, the new Year 5 and 6 web page has gone live on the school website.  It is a work in progress, but hop onto the Down Hall website and have a look!

Please ensure that ALL email correspondence for the attention of the Year 5/6 teachers is sent to the phase email, not the teacher's personal school email addresses.

If your child is absent, please contact the school office rather than your child's teacher.

Welcome back Year 5 and 6!

 Dear Parents/Carers

Here we are, at the end of the first full week back after lockdown.  The children have settled back into our routine exceptionally well.  It is like they have never been away!

Don't forget that we are supporting Comic Relief next Friday.  The children are invited to wear something red, along with their usual school uniform.  No red noses please.  A collection bucket will be available at the gate for donations.

We would like to wish all of our Year 5 and 6 Mums a very happy Mother's Day for Sunday.  We hope that your children spoil you and look after you for the day.

Welcome Back from the Year 5/6 Teachers

Dear Parents/Carers

So, here we are, at the end of school lockdown.  The Year 5/6 team would like to, once again, thank you for all of your hard work and support during lockdown.  We have the most amazing children and parents here at Down Hall and you have all done us proud.  We are really looking forward to welcoming you and the children back next week.  We have been busy preparing the classrooms and resources ready for Monday and can't wait to get back to our new normal.

Below you will see a few reminders as we are sure it must seem like a very long time since you had to do the 'school run.'
