Happy Friday and Happy Half Term everyone!

This half term has flown by and we would like to wish our children a restful week off.  They have worked so hard since Christmas and continue to make us proud every day.

This week, the children have been writing their own chapters for The Hobbit.  They have thoroughly enjoyed reading the text and using it as a model for their own writing.

On Wednesday, we took part in the PTA's coin run.  A huge congratulations to Sapphire, who won the prize for the longest line of coins in KS2.

On Thursday, we were treated to a performance by our young musicians who have been learning to play keyboards and guitars with our music teacher, James.

Today, we enjoyed having a 'wellbeing' day.  We all came to school in comfy clothes and took part in activities such as reading, colouring, painting, craft and a phase game of Bingo to end the day.

We would like to wish you all a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 26th.

World Book Day

This year, World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March. To promote reading within our school community, for this day the children can bring in a favourite book from home which they can share with the other children in their class.

They can also bring in prop which serves as a clue to their favourite book/character or come dressed up as a favourite character too if they so wish. On this day all the children will also receive a £1 World Book Day voucher!

 Happy Friday everyone!

This week in Year 5/6 we have begun reading The Hobbit and have been looking at how authors use language to infer character traits.  Next week, we will be writing a 'missing chapter' for the novel.

In maths, Year 5 have been learning about fractions.  They have learnt to multiply fractions and have been surprised how easy it is to do!

Year 6 have  been working hard to complete a past SATs paper in maths, reading and grammar, punctuation and spelling.  We are all very proud of the effort they have put in and how hard they have worked.

Please make sure that you read our newsletter, as there are a few exciting things coming up, next week.

On Wednesday, we are hosting our yearly coin run competition.  Please send your child with any spare change you have.  They may also wear something red along with their usual school uniform.

On Friday, we will be having a mental health and well being day.  Children can wear comfy clothes and will take part in mindful activities during the day.  Please note - there will not be any donations needed for children to come to school in non uniform.

After half term, we will be hosting a talk for parents of Year 6 children, explaining the SATs assessment process which will take place in May. The talk will take place in the school hall at 2:30pm on Wednesday 28th February.  If you are unable to attend, a copy of the slides will be sent home with your child.

On Wednesday 13th March, there will be another talk in the school hall regarding the Isle of Wight trip.

Year 6 parents of children who are going on this year's residential visit are invited to join the staff who will also be on the trip, in the school hall from 2:30pm.  This is an excellent opportunity for parents to find out about the types of activities their child will take part in, the visits we go on and what children need to pack.

Again, if you are unable to attend, the slides from the presentation will be sent home with your child.  If you have any questions regarding SATs or the Isle of Wight trip, please contact us on the Year 5/6 email, catch a member of staff on the gate or email the school office.

Have a lovely weekend.

Dear Parents and Carers

This week in Year 5 and 6, we have continued writing our poems based on the world around us.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and have worked hard to present some lovely, thought provoking poetry.  There are a few examples of their work in this week's newsletter.

In Project, we have been learning more about The Anglo-Saxons and studied what it would be like to live in one of their villages and the sorts of jobs we would have had.

Next week, Year 6 will complete some practise papers as part of their revision for SATs.  Please make sure your child attends school every day in order for us to gain a full picture of how they are performing.

HOODIES

Miss Sharman has contacted the Leavers Hoodie company to set the ball rolling for this year.  Watch this space for more details on how to order soon!

HOMEWORK

Homework for this week has been uploaded to Google Classroom.  Please remember to encourage your children to use Spelling Frame.
