Dear Parents/Carers

The Young Shakespeare Company

On Monday 21st, Year 5 and 6 welcomed The Young Shakespeare Company to Down Hall.  They performed A Midsummer Night's Dream for us and even asked some of the children to play some of the characters.  The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed it.  

 

PE

On Wednesday, children met our new PE staff and enjoyed a whole afternoon of sport.  There were some achy muscles the next day, which just means they worked hard!

Isle of Wight residential 

Year 6 children who are joining us on The Isle of Wight residential brought a letter home this week inviting parents to a meeting about the trip.  This will take place of Wednesday 23rd March at 3:30pm

We hope to see you there.  Please complete and return the parent consent form which is attached to the letter.

Parent Teacher Consultations

Thank you to everyone who signed up for and attended today's meetings.  As always, it was lovely to see you and discuss your child's progress.  We are extremely proud of our Year 5 and 6 children and always enjoy sharing this with you.

Anglo Saxon Houses

We had some lovely models of Anglo Saxon houses arrive in school after half term.  The children have clearly worked hard on their designs.  We were very impressed with their efforts.  Thank you to all the parents who helped in the construction of the houses.  We hope you enjoyed supporting your children with their task.

 Dear Parents/Carers

We have had yet another exciting week in Year 5/6.  This morning, the children enjoyed wearing something red and taking part in the Coin Run to raise funds for our newly formed PTA. Congratulations to Ruby Class! who had the longest line. Year 6 pupils from Ruby Class took part in Bikeabilty lessons and they have all passed the course successfully, so well done to them. Year 6 pupils in Topaz Class are looking forward to their turn, and letters will be sent out to parents once the date is confirmed. 

Homework, which is project based, has been handed to the children and also posted on Google Classroom. therefore the children have not brought homework books home.

Polite Reminder

Online booking for Parent Teacher appointments went live on Wednesday and there is a letter about this on the main school website. It is assumed that all appointments will take place via Zoom unless you email to request a face-to-face appointment or telephone call. if this is the case then please email your child's teacher via the Year 5/6 email. 

Advance Notice

Please note that on the afternoon of Monday 21st February, Year 5/6 will be watching a performance by the Young Shakespeare Company. The performance will run from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm, so the children will be leaving school slightly later than usual and via the Downhall Park Way entrance.

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had an exciting week in Year 5/6.  Year 6 pupils from Sapphire Class took part in Bikeabilty lessons.  They all passed the course successfully, so well done to them!  Next week, year 6 children from Ruby Class will take the course.

We have a provisional date for Topaz Class.  Letters will be emailed to parents in due course.

All three classes have been completing their end of half term assessments this week.  As always, the children have remained focused and worked hard to show us what they know.  Homework will not be set this week, so that children can have a break.  Homework will be set for half term.

Appointments for Parent Teacher Consultations will be available to book online from Wednesday.  There is a letter about this on the main school website.

Next Friday, we will be taking part in the Coin Run to raise funds for our newly formed PTA.  Children are invited to wear something red along with their usual school uniform for a suggested donation of £1.  We have enjoyed taking part in this event before.  It will be lovely to welcome it, and the new PTA, back into school after what seems like a very long time.

A message from Miss Sharman

After half term, we will be making some exciting changes to our PE lessons.  

We will be welcoming some new coaches from Jack Of All Sports to our team. 

Mrs Perrins, Mr Attfield, Mr Gray and Mr Harrington will deliver lessons along with Mrs Williamson.  

Please ensure that your child has the correct PE uniform on PE days.  This should consist of:

• Plain, navy blue tracksuit (No logos please e.g. Nike/Puma etc)
• Plain, navy blue shorts
• School t-shirt
• Plain, black trainers (No bright coloured soles or stripes please)

We are really looking forward to working with Mr Harrington and his team and can't wait to welcome them to Down Hall.

We have been asked to pass on the following message from Mrs Hurley regarding Times Tables.

INVITATION TO ALL PARENTS

Times tables are at the heart of mental arithmetic, which in itself helps form the basis of a child’s understanding and ability when working with numbers. Once children have learnt their times tables to fluency and instant recall, they are then able to work more confidently through a wide range of calculations and problem solving. 

Join us for a Parent Workshop based on Times Tables and how they are taught at Down Hall Primary.

Tuesday 1st March 2022 1.30-2.15pm

At this stage Mrs Hurley will be conducting this session via Zoom but there may be a change in restrictions which will enable the session to run in the school hall with social distancing measures put in place. If this is the case then we would need to limit numbers to a maximum of 30 people.
