Year 5/6 Blogpost Friday 27th March '26

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you have had a lovely week. It was great seeing so many of our children enjoying cooking today. Manuka class made ANZAC biscuits. Nightshade class cooked Jollof rice and Daisy class produced a pasta dish.
It has been a very busy half term and the children have been excellent, working extremely hard in all areas of their learning. We hope you enjoy your break, you all deserve it!

YEAR 6 SATs AND ISLE OF WIGHT MEETING

We have decided to conduct a Year 6 SATs meeting at 3.30pm on Thursday 16th April. This will be followed by a Year 6 Isle of Wight parents meeting with Miss Wakefield where you will be given all the information you will need. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
Many thanks,

Mrs Hurley, Miss Wakefield and Mr Greenfield

YEAR 6 HOMEWORK

Over the holidays, we would like the Year 6 children to revise for their upcoming SATs. They would have come home with packs containing:
Maths (paper 2 and 3 only)
GPS
Reading
We ask that they complete these tests independently. Can you please be back in school ready to be marked and discussed on the first day back.
Thank you for your support.

We are offering SATs Booster sessions to all Year 6 children. We would actively encourage all children to attend. We will have 4 more sessions beginning Wednesday 15th April and ending on Wednesday 6th May 3.15-4.15pm. Could you please fill in the Google form by clicking on the link below.

Please also ensure that your child is regularly:
  • Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes reading to an adult every day is the optimum and should be continuing into Year 6. Please also encourage your child to read by themselves and then discuss the text afterwards, sharing opinions, their favourite part, or questioning what happened so as to ensure that your child is understanding the text as well as reading it. All children have a Reading record to take home.
  • Spelling words - please practise these at home by revising them from your spelling and times table notebook and by writing them down. These holidays  we are up to Spelling rule Rule 57 for Daisy class and Rule 59 for Nightshade/Manuka class.
  • TTRS/Sumdog - lots of practice on these amazing programmes that complement what we learn at school. Please see your reading diaries for login details.
  • This weeks times table is: 4's and 8's

We hope that you have a wonderful Easter holiday. See you back at school on Monday 13th April.

Stay safe and take care,
Mrs Hurley, Mr Greenfield and Miss Harvey
