Dear Parents/ Carers,
We hope you have had a lovely week. It was great seeing so many of you at Parent's Evening this week. It's been a very busy half term and the children have been excellent working extremely hard in all areas of their learning. We hope you enjoy your break, you deserve it.
SATs CLUB
Dear Parents,
After the Easter Holidays, we would like to open the club up to the year 6 children who received a letter for the final 3 Wednesday’s before the real SATs begin on 12th May. Please sign the return slip and send it back to your child’s teacher before the end of term.
Many thanks,
Mrs Hurley and Mrs Witherall
ANCIENT GREEKS
Next term in Year 5 and 6 we are going to be learning about Ancient Greece. We have booked Victrix to come into school - further details to follow. We will be asking for a small amount to cover the cost of this special visitor (this will be around £5) We would also request that the children come to school dressed as an ancient Greek. We are just giving you a heads up now so that you have the holidays to source a costume. The session will be a lively and interactive storytelling of famous Greek myths and legends, starting with reality into legend with the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. We then look at perhaps the most famous Ancient Greek ever - Alexander the Great, a historical figure to whom many legends have been added. We then act out famous Greek myths and legends.
YEAR 5/6 HOMEWORK TASKS - CGP BOOKS
Due to it being a half term break, we would like you have a rest and enjoy some time with your family and friends. Should you still like to do anything, please see below for optional extras.
Please also ensure that your child is regularly:
- Reading: Remember 15-20 minutes reading to an adult every day is the optimum and should be continuing into Year 6. Please also encourage your child to read by themselves and then discuss the text afterwards, sharing opinions, their favourite part or questioning what happened so as to ensure that your child is understanding the text as well as reading it. All children have a Reading record to take home.
- Spelling words - please practise these at home by revising them from your spelling and times table notebook and by writing them down. This week we are up to Spelling rule 59.
- TTRS/Sumdog - lots of practice on these amazing programmes that complement what we learn at school. Please see your reading diaries for login details.
- This week's times table is: 11's
