Year 5/6 Blogpost 04.04.25

 Dear Parents/ Carers,

We hope you have had a lovely week. It was great seeing so many of you at Parent's Evening this week. It's been a very busy half term and the children have been excellent working extremely hard in all areas of their learning. We hope you enjoy your break, you deserve it.

SATs CLUB

Dear Parents,

After the Easter Holidays, we would like to open the club up to the year 6 children who received a letter for the final 3 Wednesday’s before the real SATs begin on 12th May. Please sign the return slip and send it back to your child’s teacher before the end of term.

Many thanks,

Mrs Hurley and Mrs Witherall

ANCIENT GREEKS

Next term in Year 5 and 6 we are going to be learning about Ancient Greece. We have booked Victrix to come into school - further details to follow. We will be asking for a small amount to cover the cost of this special visitor (this will be around £5) We would also request that the children come to school dressed as an ancient Greek. We are just giving you a heads up now so that you have the holidays to source a costume. The session will be a lively and interactive storytelling of famous Greek myths and legends, starting with reality into legend with the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. We then look at perhaps the most famous Ancient Greek ever - Alexander the Great, a historical figure to whom many legends have been added. We then act out famous Greek myths and legends.

Dear Parents,

It has been a rather busy week with lots going on. Thank you to the parents and children that have taken the time to complete the questionnaires. We are very much looking forward to our trip on Monday. Please take the time to read the letter that your children received earlier in the week, detailing what the children need to do and take.

Well done to the children that took part in the Sumdog competition.

CARDBOARD NEEDED!

Another reminder as there are still quite a few children that have not brought the materials they need to construct their fairground rid.

In Computing lessons later on this half term, the children will be programming circuits to design a fairground ride. In order for the children to make these rides, we ask that any cardboard, yoghurt pots etc can be brought into the school. This would be greatly appreciated.

Year 5/6 Blogpost Friday 31st January 2025

Dear Parents,

We hope you have had a lovely week. It certainly has been a busy one here in Year 5 and 6.

Holocaust Memorial Day

KS2 had a special assembly to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. Holocaust is the name given to Hitler's attempt to wipe out the Jewish people of Europe. During the Second World War - 1939 to 1945 - Hitler led the Nazi party which ruled Germany. On his orders, Jewish people were put in prison camps and many were killed. Families were torn apart. Around six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis, as well as disabled and gay people. On Holocaust Memorial Day we remember all those who faced such cruelty, both in Nazi Germany and in similar - more recent - horrors around the world. For example, in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The Holocaust shows the worst of human behaviour: racism and cruelty. But it also shows us how strong, kind and brave we can be. When we see the people in our lives treated cruelly, what should we do to help? What will you do to be strong, courageous and kind?

WHOLE SCHOOL SUMDOG COMPETITION

Calling all of you amazing mathematicians!

You have been entered into the East of England Sumdog Competition. It starts on 31st Januaryat 3.30pm, and finishes at 3.30pm on 6th February.

Why not have a go and get your class on the school leaderboard?

I will be monitoring how well each class is doing. The winning class will get extra playtime!

Let's show our school what great mathematicians we are!

Good luck.

Mrs Hurley 👍
